正文: ANKARA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The hijacker of a passenger plane belonging to private Pegasus Airlines on Tuesday surrendered and gave himself up to the authorities after the plane landed in Turkish capital Ankara, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The male hijacker, a Turkish national identified as Mehmet Goksin Gol, has been taken into custody by security forces, the report said, adding that none of 175 passengers on board had been hurt in the event.
According to media reports, Gol claimed to have explosives and hijacked the plane while it was traveling from Turkey's southeastern city of Diyarbakir to Istanbul. The plane was forced to land at Ankara's Esenboga airport later.
The hijacker, born in 1968, reportedly is a drug addict and has been arrested by police for many times in the past.
It is reported that Gol had asked to be taken to Iran.
"Although the hijacker claimed that he had explosives, we could not find any explosive device," Turkish Ministry of Transportation Undersecretary Ibrahim Sahin was quoted by Anatolia as saying.
Meanwhile, a female passenger who felt unwell was rushed to a health center at the airport. After security forces complete the search, the plane will leave for Istanbul, according to Anatolia.
WASHINGTON, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Congress has authorized nearly 60 million dollars in aid to the security forces loyal to Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, U.S. media reported Tuesday.
The Bush administration has vowed to help strengthen the security forces of Abbas, a moderate leader recognized by the U.S.-led West.
Meanwhile, the United States has vowed not to deal with the Hamas-led Palestinian government until the radical Islamic group renounces violence and recognizes the existence of Israel.
Moreover, the Bush administration has suspended direct aid and contacts with the Hamas-led Palestinian government.
